Garcia blames U.S. for illegals' deaths

Border Patrol Policies Blamed For Immigrant Deaths

A local human rights group blames Border Patrol policies for the murders of two illegal immigrants last week.

Derechos Humanos held a news conference Monday, calling for the Border Patrol to do its job so vigilante groups won't control the border. On October 16, 2002, someone opened fire on a group of illegal immigrants near Red Rock. Two men died, one escaped and nine others disappeared.

Derechos Humanos suggested vigilantes opened fire on the group.

The Border Patrol says it believes rival smugglers were involved.
