Subject: FAIR Action AlertArmey Language Endangers Homeland Security
Representative Dick Armey (R-TX) unveiled legislation yesterday that would kill any attempt to implement President Bush's plan to adopt uniform national driver's license standards, which is a vital step toward ensuring homeland security. Armey used his authority as the Chairman of the House Select Homeland Security Committee to insert language into the Homeland Security legislation H.R. 5005 that is being marked-up today.
The complete ban on a uniform standard for a drivers license is an open invitation to the type of document fraud, identity theft and drivers license abuse that facilitated the terrorists in the September 11th attacks. The lack of uniform standards, or use of biometric identifiers, ensures that virtually any terrorist bearing an insecure driver's license may board an airplane anywhere in the U.S. In addition, nineteen of the September 11th terrorists possessed over 60 state identification documents.
It is critical that this ban is removed and we will keep you updated on further progress. For more information please visit FAIR's Secure Identification and National Security <http://www.fairus.org/html/secureid.html> . In addition, please see FAIR's Press Release.
Action Needed:
Please call the members of the Homeland Security Committee today and ask them to strip-out Armey's provision to ban national driver's license standards.
